Queensland U14 State Championships – Postponed

Queensland U14 State Championships – Postponed

Softball Queensland (SQI) has been closely monitoring information and recent advice as provided by the Federal and QLD Governments in relation to the coronavirus (COVID-19) and its management of containment.

With that information in hand and after discussions with all District Association Presidents that had nominated for the Under 14 boys and girls championships, we can advise the following events have now been postponed due to potential risk to all attendees and the event may breach the new outdoor gathering bans of 500 people or more.

Postponed – 2020 SQI State Under 14’s Boys Championships at Brisbane Softball Association, Preston Road, Carina scheduled for 4-6 April 2020.

Postponed – 2020 SQI State 14’s Girls Championships at Ipswich Softball Association, 125B Chubb Street, One Mile scheduled for 4-6 April 2020.

Postponed – 2020 Emerging Talent Camp at Redcliffe Softball Association, Boardman Road, Kippa-Ring scheduled for 23-24 May 2020.

As the events are now postponed due to government-imposed bans, we will work with the appropriate key stakeholders to discuss the alternative dates for the SQI’s Under 14’s Championships and the Emerging Talent Camp. We can advise that further advice will be released on Monday April 20th for this event. We also acknowledge that given the open-ended pandemic at hand, a timeframe on rescheduling is very difficult to provide with the unknown variables. Our decision-making process on this must and will remain fluid.

Decisions in relation to other future events managed by SQI will be made in due course. We will continue to be communicative to our community in sharing updates and information as quickly as possible.

The ongoing implications of this situation and other possible changes, as well as future cancellation or postponement of events and competitions is far from ideal from an athlete and SQI point of view, however, the health of ours and your members and their families are paramount.

Further information in relation to localised Softball activities will be provided within the next 24 hours.

Kind regards
