COVID-19 Update and Suspension of Softball Activities – 22 April

COVID-19 Update and Suspension of Softball Activities – 22 April

The decision made by Softball Queensland on 19 March 2020, to suspend all softball activities reflected the advice of the Australian and Queensland Governments and Softball Australia and was been made to protect softball participants and the broader community. Continuing softball activity as normal risks spreading the infection further.  We have a social responsibility to take action to help slow the spread of COVID19 and to protect our community.

In the interests of public health and to stop the spread of COVID-19, Softball Queensland is further suspending all community softball activities in Queensland until Sunday 31st May, 2020. This includes all playing, training, sign-ons, grading, face to face meetings and presentation events.

This extension is based on recent information available from Australian Government, Queensland Health and Sport and Recreation.

Does this mean Softball is cancelled for 2020? No, the suspension of softball activities is temporary at this stage.  We are hopeful to recommence our sport as soon as we can and will continue to work with all stakeholders to ensure softball can return to normal as soon as we are permitted.

If you play in a game (of any form), or train with all or some of your team/ club during this period of suspension, these activities are not sanctioned by SQI and as such you will not be insured.

It is important to recognise that there are various competitions run by SQI and our District Associations across the state.  With this in mind, the various organisations are currently working through a range of varying scenarios.  However, it is fair to say that softball in 2020 will be vastly different to any other year.
